Walking in North Devon Huxtable Farm is situated in a quiet corner of North Devon with circular walks from it's doorstep. The The Macmillan Way West and Tarka Trail pass Huxtable Farm's entrance, 9 miles east of Barnstaple, 10 miles west of Challacombe and 11 miles west of Simonsbath, just right for a days walk! The South West Coast Path and Two Moors Way are also within easy reach by car from Huxtable Farm With Jackie's knowledge of the area and an abundance or walks leaflets, books and maps available to borrow, you should find a walk suitable any time of year. Luggage transfer, packed lunches (£9 each) and flask refill service can be arranged for those walking the Trail's or from Lands End to John o' Groats! Drying facilities for wet clothing and walking boots is also available Meals; Occasionally we have a Bar-B-Q and your welcome to join us. When we're not providing meals, you are welcome to bring a picnic or if possible we are happy to drive you to the local pub and then you get a taxi (about £10) back to the farm. Tarka Trail Circular Walks
Cycling in North Devon There are a wide range of cycle routes in North Devon, ranging in length and difficulty, so that there are routes to suit everyones cycling ability. You can either bring your own bike (Huxtable Farm has a secure cycle storage barn) or hire from the many cycle hire companies in North Devon. The Tarka Trail, stretching over 32 miles/52Km from Braunton to Meeth, via Barnstaple, Instow and Great Torrington, is entirely traffic free, off road route suitable for families with young children. The Tarka Trail can be accessed only 7 miles from Huxtable Farm at Barnstaple Railway Station. The National Cycle Network Route No.3: West Country Way passes Huxtable Farm approximately 2miles north of the farm. The National Cycle Network (NCN) has been developed by Sustrans, working with local authorities and others to develop a series of traffic-free paths and traffic-calmed roads right across the United Kingdom. Route No.3 runs from Bristol to Padstow (crossing Devon for 105 miles/168Km). The route runs from near Tiverton along the Grand Western Canel, across Exmoor and onto the Tarka Trail Cycle/walkway from Barnstaple to Petrockstowe, and then rejoins lanes to Holsworthy and on into Cornwall. Eggesford Forest: A waymarked off-road cycle route following bridleways and forest tracks through the Forestry Commission plantations - not suitable for very young children or novice cyclists.

Other useful Walking & Cycling information links The The Macmillan Way West a 102 mile (163 km), fully waymarked path from Castle Cary in Somerset to Barnstaple on the North Devon Coast, with all funds raised donated to Macmillan Cancer Support. An ideal week's walk. Tarka Trail 180 miles figure-of-eight trail in the northern part of Devon based on Barnstaple; park of the route makes use of the Tarka Line railway; the Trail follows the route taken by Tarka the Otter in the book written by Henry Williamson; waymarked except on the open moorland sections. The South West Coast Path following the coast on the edge of Exmoor National Park, through the historic harbours of Lynton and Lynmouth, Valley of the Rocks around to the large sandy beaches of Woolacombe, Croyde, and Saunton Sands on to Barnstaple picking up the Tarka Trail to Bideford, Westward Ho! beach and on to Clovelly, Hartland Point and on to Bude. Two Moors Way The Devon Coast to Coast -102 miles (163 km) - Two Moors Way is a long-distance walking route between Ivybridge on the southern edge of Dartmoor and Lynmouth on the North Coast of Exmoor, comprehensively waymarked except on the open moorland sections.
